One portrait session at Hyde Studios became four distinct visual worlds: circular colour projections, low-key blue light, hard window-style shadows and a clean monochrome set. Working through the looks in one controlled space gave Tolu Madariola a varied portrait gallery, while the accompanying reels captured how each lighting idea moved from setup to finished frame.

The brief was to explore colour, contrast and movement without locking the session into one visual treatment. Hyde’s controlled shooting space allowed the team to move from saturated projections to a crisp, neutral portrait setup while keeping the subject, styling and creative direction consistent.
Each lighting change had a purpose: circular projections shaped the background, deep blue light created a low-key reflective mood, and hard slatted shadows introduced a cleaner editorial finish.
The session was built around repeatable lighting ideas rather than extensive set construction. Small changes to colour, modifier position and reflective material produced visibly different results without slowing the shoot.

Purple, blue and orange projections created depth behind Tolu while keeping the pose and silhouette at the centre of the frame.

Low-key blue light, iridescent material and reflected highlights introduced movement without requiring a large physical set.

A neutral background and hard window-style shadows created a brighter editorial look that still belonged to the wider series.
The final selection moves from saturated purple and orange portraiture to deep blue low-key frames and a clean high-key image. Tolu’s black styling holds the series together, allowing the lighting and pose to create the variation.
